South Texas Pecans

South Texas Pecans orchard is located on our family farm established over 100 years ago in Yoakum, TX. The roots to our Texas pecan trees run deep. When the land was first purchased in July of 1918, the farm operated with many crops. However, the first pecan tree was planted in 1919 by Ed Vahalik Sr.

The creek bottom pecan orchard was planted by grandfather, Harvey G. Hoermann in the spring of 1971. Steve Hoermann, son of Harvey Hoermann, took an interest in farming and attended Texas A&M University. He graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture. Throughout the next 30 years he grew tomatoes, peaches, and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.

In 2015, Jason Hoermann, son of Steve, started managing the orchard. He regulates growth, irrigates, and harvests to ensure his wife, Sharon Hoermann, has a premier quality crop to retail. She sales online, by phone, or you can find her at various market days around Texas. Over the years, several other orchards have been planted. Our orchards offer many different aged trees, which are located in DeWitt and Lavaca counties. The orchard has grown to over 100 acres of irrigated trees consisting of several different varieties.

We proudly grow Caddo, Cheyenne, Choctaw, Desirable, Naconna, Natives, Pawnee, Prilop, Sioux and more. Also, South Texas Pecans manages other pecan orchards and river bottoms along the Guadalupe River. We are caretakers of pecan trees from newly planted orchards to hundred years old native pecan trees. We are proud to be stewards of this land for over a century.
